According to Chaffee, perception involves three steps namely selecting, organizing and interpreting. Selecting means paying attention to certain sensations, organizing is putting the selected sensations certain patterns and interpreting is understand the pattern according to what it means to us. Whenever we perceive things we follow this pattern. The process of perceiving occurs at a basic level as well as a complex level. In the complex level we try to understand larger and complicated things and there also we select, organize and interpret what we experience through our senses whose final outcome is to perceive. Our experiences also determine the way we perceive thing.
